The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation is not-for-profit public corporation created to support the students and teachers of Mt. Vernon Schools, K-12. The foundation will raise funds to award teacher grants for classroom or grade-level projects as well as school corporation-wide initiatives. We will support all areas of academics, the arts, citizenship, cultural awareness, athletics, healthy lifestyles, technology and more. We will also assist teachers, students and administrators in applying for grants from outside sources.
How did MVEF come to be? The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation was formed by a group of leaders from all sectors of the community-- business, civic, education-- whose goal was to enhance student achievement in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation. We saw a need to expand the opportunities available to our students beyond what can be provided through current tax dollars.
Why was MVEF created? The Mt. Vernon School system employs some of the best teachers and administrators in the state. We wanted to make sure these outstanding professionals were given the tools they needed to help each student reach his/her greatest potential.
When will I see an impact? MVEF plans to fund projects in the schools by early 2008. We will also begin building an endowment fund through the Hancock County Community Foundation which will insure our ability to provide innovative and enriching programs for generations of Mt. Vernon students to come.
What is your formal mission statement? To encourage and support creativity, innovation, and excellence that enhances the educational opportunities for students of the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation.
